Compassionate support. Sacred Ceremony & Ritual. Honouring the Heart-Soul Bond.
End-of-Life Ceremony - Honouring the Heart-Soul Bond & Beyond
Welcome, my name is Lainey, and I am an End-of-Life Pet Practitioner. What is an End-of-Life Animal Practitioner, or Pet Death Doula? A death doula is here for all stages — not only the very end. Whether you're coming to terms with a life-limiting diagnosis, navigating ongoing health issues, or facing the reality of an elderly transition, I walk beside you through it all, from the first hard news to the quiet days that follow. As a pet death doula, I provide compassionate support to people and their animals through these tender seasons, offering gentle, non-judgemental companionship. Through Reiki treatments as a complementary therapy, energy healing flows for the highest good of the recipient — soothing and nourishing the emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical bodies, exactly in the present moment. With deep honour and reverence, I intuitively craft bespoke healing sessions, uniquely designed for you and your animal. Together, we create a peaceful, warm, and gentle energetic space that supports both you and your beloved in finding calm, balance, and release — empowering you to feel you are truly supporting your animal and yourself. I understand the heaviness of this path, and I hold space so you can quietly surrender to it — without needing to be brave, or to have all the answers. Together, we make mindful moments of connection, choosing presence over fear, and celebrating each moment of love while you still have them beside you. I've sat where you are sitting now. I've known the ache of watching beloved dogs and horses navigate life-limiting illness — that special rescued mare 'Gorgie-Girl' with laminitis, and my sweet angels-with-paws Tippy and Geisha. I've opened my heart and home as an end-of-life palliative care foster carer, and there I met Bailey — my end-of-life foster-keeper, "Bucket List Bailey." Bailey taught me the practice I now share with every family: that even in terminal illness, there is room for mindful moments, happy experiences, food treats, and joy-filled days that keep a beloved spirit bright. Together, you'll feel supported emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, as we honour the deep Heart-Soul connection that exists on earth — and which transcends the limits of our earthly bodies. I recently completed my studies and training as an Animal Pet Death Doula, and I'm currently offering my services to the wider Ballarat community for a small donation per session, while I gain further practical experience under the mentorship program with Life Options Inc.
Gentle Honesty Trust Ethics Responsibility
The scope of my practice — and what it means for you
Before we begin, a gentle word on boundaries, so you always know what I do — and what I don't. I do not diagnose, and I do not prescribe. I am not a veterinarian, and I do not interfere with your veterinary care — that is not my place, and never will be. Your vet remains your trusted guide for all medical decisions. My role is alongside, not in place of. I work as a complement to veterinary care — helping you process, prepare, and make meaning — while your vet cares for the body, I hold the emotions, the heart, Spirit and Soul. My role is to guide you through acceptance — to walk with you toward the gently healing truth that death is a perfectly natural part of life. Not something to fear or rush, but something to meet with love, mindfulness, and honour. My focus is the moments. Together we make positive memories, cherish the time you have, and create a "bucket list" with your pet — joy-filled experiences that deepen your bond and sustain you long after.
Honouring the sacred Soul-Heart bond
Whatever shape your companion takes, the love is the same. I honour the unique soul-heart bond you share with your animal —
Whether horse, dog, cat, alpaca, cow, or snake — every creature who has loved you deserves a tender goodbye.
There is no hierarchy of grief, and no companion too "different" to be mourned or celebrated.
Your bond is sacred and it is honoured here. Through ritual and ceremony you can choose how you want to celebrate the End-of-Life farewell.
The Heart-Soul bond - clarity
Our animals love us in a way too few humans ever can. They don't judge our uniqueness — they cherish it.
Where the world too often misunderstands us, our companions simply accept us, wholly and without condition.
I believe this is their soul purpose: to walk beside us as a living demonstration of unconditional love and trust.
This is the love that sustains us when everything else feels uncertain.
The Energetic Connection & Health Awareness
A gentle note, just for you.
Before we go further — a friendly note, from one animal carer to another.
Get your own health check too.
So often we pour ourselves into caring for our pets that we quietly neglect our own health.
But your wellbeing and theirs are intertwined — their health affects you, and your health shapes how you can show up for them.
This is why I support people and their pets together — not one or the other, but both.
You matter here too.
Animal Family Members - Never 'Just a pet'
A Pet Death Doula is someone to walk beside you — gently, without judgement — helping you feel empowered rather than overwhelmed as you face each decision.
Together, we can slow things down, catch your breath, and explore all your options with tenderness, so whatever you choose comes from love rather than fear.
Coping after a life-limiting diagnosis for your pet can be overwhelming and may feel like the ground shifts beneath you.
Part of my role is simply to help you arrive at acceptance — not all at once, but gently.
To hold space for the shock, the questions, the fear, and the slow exhale that comes as you begin to meet what is.
You don't have to process any of it alone.
In that moment, everything can suddenly feel overwhelming — confusion, anxiety, and a heavy uncertainty that's hard to hold.
There is no "right" way to feel, and no need to have it all figured out.
When the emotional and mental weight begins to feel unbearable, please know you don't have to carry it alone.
Support is here for you.
What we really grieve..
When they go, it isn't one big thing that breaks us. It's all the little things.
The paws that no longer run to us. The routine that suddenly feels empty. The lost feeling that follows us through the house. The love we reach for without thinking — and find no one there.
We listen for the little sounds: the jingle of a tag or collar, the pitter-patter of nails on the tiles. And the spot beside us still feels like they are right there — because, often, they are. Still connected by love.
The happy moments we want to share feel empty without them. It's not the same. We grieve the future time and the memories we thought we'd have the time to make. We grieve the piece of our own heart that left with them. Every little thing that made us a team.
And still we whisper: I don't know how to be without you. It hurts so much my heart aches, like it's falling into a million pieces. And the tears flow on their own, without our asking.
If you have felt any of this — even all of it — please know: you are not broken, and you are not alone.
And your grief is real.
Studies of grief show that the loss of a beloved animal can be as profound as the loss of a human friend or family member — and for many of us, even more so. There is no "just" about it.
This is genuine, weighty grief, worthy of honour — and this is love with nowhere to go. I will sit here with you in it.
Reiki Treatments: Holistic support through transitions
When the body struggles, the soul needs tending too.
Studies show Reiki can lower pain in humans after treatment, and the same gentle support is often applied to animals.
In my own care, I've watched Reiki improve recovery time in foster animals.
When we honour the heart-soul bond through mindful, trusting partnership, the whole being returns to balance — and recovery, whatever form it takes, is optimal.
Reiki is more than a treatment — it is a way of pouring your love into your animal in the moments that remain.
It empowers you to feel you are actively caring for them, standing beside them, giving something gentle and healing even when words fail.
Sovereignty to Serenity; Easing life's transitions.
FAQs - End-of-Life Pet Practitioner or Animal Pet Death Doula?
An End-of-Life Pet Practitioner is also known as an Animal Companion Death Doula. An EOL pet practitioner offers gentle companionship through the tender seasons with your animal — whether that's life-limiting illness, aging, or a terminal diagnosis. I offer emotional, spiritual, and practical support that complements, and never replaces, your veterinary care.
What happens on the free courtesy call?
We simply talk, with no obligation and no pressure.
You're welcome to share only what feels comfortable.
I'll listen, and offer a sense of how my services might sit alongside you.
It's a gentle way to see if we might be a good fit — and you'll leave with clarity, whatever you decide.
Which areas do you serve for onsite consultations?
Onsite consultations are available in the City of Ballarat, within a 30km radius of Wendouree, Victoria, Australia. Covering a radius from Miners Rest to Smythesdale, Snake Valley to Creswick.
For clients who lived outside of the service area, I offer convenient online remote consultations world-wide.
What kinds of animals do you work with?
Every kind. Horse, dog, cat, alpaca, cow, snake — every creature who has loved you deserves a tender goodbye.
I don't measure grief by the species; I simply honour the bond you share, whatever form it has taken.
I am here to support you and your beloved animal companion to honour and cherish the partnership shared.
Is a Pet Doula this only for the end of life?
Not at all. I'm here for all stages — from a new diagnosis and ongoing health concerns, through palliative care and transition, to the grief that may follow.
There's no "right time" to reach out; whenever you feel it might help, you're welcome.
As an animal and equine Reiki energy healing practitioner, I find many clients seek holistic therapies such as Reiki to help complement veterinary treatment, and support the emotional and mental well-being of their companion animals.
Do you diagnose or prescribe?
No, I don't. I don't diagnose, prescribe, or step into your veterinary care — that isn't my place.
Your vet remains your trusted guide for all medical decisions.
My role is to simply be there beside that care, offering a steady, gentle presence for the emotional heart-soul bond.
As a Professional I take a code of conduct and have a duty of care to uphold the highest standards of care, service and ethical treatment practice to each and every client human and non-human.
What is Reiki, and how does it help?
Reiki is a Japanese relaxation technique which restores energy flow within the body to improve wellbeing.
It is a very gentle, non-invasive energy practice that brings calm, balance, and release to the whole being.
Some studies suggest it can ease pain in people, and the same soft support is often offered to animals.
It empowers you to feel you are actively supporting your animal — pouring love into them in the moments that remain — while also nurturing your own sense of calm and care.
What if I feel overwhelmed?
You are so welcome here, exactly as you are.
There is no need to be "together" or to know what to say.
This is a space where heavy feelings can simply rest for a while, without judgement and without hurry.
What if my pet has already passed
You're still welcome here.
I offer grief support through Reiki treatments for you and for your companion in spirit, and gentle ceremony to honour them.
Many people reach out in the days, weeks, and months after saying goodbye — that tender time can hold so much, and you don't have to carry it alone.
Grief has no time-frame.
Treat yourself with grace and compassion during the days, weeks and months after your beloved and cherished pet has died.
Compassionate, sacred ceremony can help you express your grief creatively through ritual and personalised healing sessions.
How does my own health fit in?
Your wellbeing and your animal's are gently intertwined.
Caring for a beloved companion can ask so much of us, and sometimes our own needs slip quietly to the side.
I hold space for people and their animals together — and consider this a soft invitation to tend to yourself too, when you can.
When might a grief counsellor be helpful?
I can walk beside you through grief, but I'm not a licensed mental health professional.
If the weight ever feels too heavy, or grief begins to settle into depression, I'll gently walk with you toward a grief counsellor — someone trained to hold that space with you.
Reaching for that help is an act of love.
When your grief becomes too overwhelming to bare, and begins to have a detrimental affect on many aspects of your life, it is very important to seek further medical support from a professional such as a qualified grief counsellor.
Please know that you are not alone. Help is available.
