The Heart of Everything

"Unmasked. Proud. Queer. Neurodiverse. Loving. Authentic. Passionate. Present. This is me — and this is the energy I bring to every session I hold."
— Lainey 🌿

There is something I want you to know before you book a session, read my credentials, or decide whether I am the right practitioner for you.

I am unmasked.

For much of my life — as so many neurodiverse, queer people do — I moved through the world wearing a version of myself that felt safer, more acceptable, more legible to the people around me. I was competent and caring and professional and present. But I was also, in ways I could not always articulate, exhausting myself in the effort of fitting a shape that was not quite mine.

The gifts of a late neurodiversity diagnosis are many and unexpected. Among the greatest of them is this: permission to simply be who you are.

I am a deeply spiritual person. I am queer. I am neurodiverse. I notice everything. I care with my whole heart and sometimes my whole nervous system. I love routine and I love depth and I love the particular joy of following a thread of knowledge or passion all the way to its source — which is, in no small part, why I know as much as I do about Japanese Reiki, animal chakras, and the bloodwork requirements of a specialist paediatric practice.

I share all of this because I believe that the most powerful thing a practitioner can offer is authentic presence — and authentic presence is not possible without authentic self.

When you come to me, you are not receiving a curated, managed, professionally palatable version of Lainey. You are receiving all of me — the vampire and the Reiki Master, the stable hand and the Board Director, the rescue volunteer and the meditation teacher, the mother and the queer neurodiverse human who finally, gratefully, stopped pretending to be otherwise.

All of it serves you. Every single part.

Why Japanese Reiki — A Complete System
I want to speak clearly about something that matters deeply to me — the nature of Reiki itself, and why I practise it the way I do.

Reiki is not simply a relaxation technique. It is not a wellness trend or a spa treatment or something you do with crystals and incense to feel better on a Sunday afternoon (though there is nothing wrong with any of those things).

Reiki is a complete system. A whole, integrated, ancient Japanese practice of healing, self-development, and spiritual awakening — created by Dr Mikao Usui in the early twentieth century and rooted in centuries of Japanese spiritual tradition.

In its fullness, the Reiki system encompasses:

🌿 Mindfulness — the practice of present-moment awareness, meeting each experience without judgement or agenda, simply as it is

🌬️ Ki Breath — Kokyu-ho and the practice of working consciously with the breath as life force energy, restoring flow, clearing stagnation, and returning the body and mind to their natural state of ease

🧘 Meditation — the Gassho practice, Joshin Kokyu-ho, the inner light meditation and many more — simple, profound daily practices that build over time into a genuine transformation of how you inhabit your own life

📜 The Gokai — The Five Reiki Precepts — the ethical and spiritual heart of the entire system:

Just for today — I will not worry Just for today — I will not be angry Just for today — I will be grateful Just for today — I will do my work honestly Just for today — I will be kind to every living thing

These are not aspirational statements to be achieved and ticked off. They are a daily practice — a returning, again and again, to the simple intention of living with greater gentleness, gratitude, and care. Just for today. Not forever. Not perfectly. Just today. Just this breath.

⚡ Energy Healing — the transmission and channelling of Reiki energy, supporting the body's natural capacity to restore balance across the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions of wellbeing

👑 Self-Sovereignty — perhaps the most quietly radical gift of the Reiki system. The gradual, consistent, breath-by-breath process of uncovering the truest version of yourself — not the version shaped by fear or expectation or the accumulated weight of other people's opinions — but the one that was always there, underneath all of it, waiting patiently to be lived

Reiki does not ask you to become something new. It asks you to remember what you already are.

Gradual Improvement — One Breath at a Time
The Japanese concept of 漸進 — Zenshin — gradual, continuous improvement — is woven through the Reiki system in the same way it runs through so many aspects of Japanese philosophy and culture.

You do not arrive at healing in a single session. You do not uncover your truest self in an afternoon. You do not build trust — with an animal, with another person, or with yourself — all at once.

You do it one breath at a time.

One session. One Tuesday evening. One quiet moment with a frightened animal who takes a single step closer. One day lived a little more gently, a little more gratefully, a little more honestly than the last.

This is the Reiki I practise. This is the Reiki I teach. And this is the Reiki I offer to you — in whatever form you need it, at whatever pace feels right, for as long as it serves you.

A Space For Everyone
I want to be explicit about something that matters deeply to me:

This is a space of complete welcome.

Every person, every animal, every family configuration, every identity, every background, every body, every faith and every doubt — all are welcome here, without exception and without condition.

Reiki is non-denominational. It works in harmony with any spiritual tradition or none at all. It asks nothing of you except your willingness to receive.

I am queer. I am neurodiverse. I have sat in rescue kennels and ICUs and stable yards and living rooms where someone was dying. I have held frightened children's hands and frightened horses' energy fields. I have shown up, over and over, for beings who had every reason not to trust — and I have waited, with complete patience, for the moment they decided it was safe.

You are safe here. Completely and unconditionally.

Just as you are. 🌿
